Physical Change and Chemical Change
Learning outcomes :
1) To Define and distinguish between physical changes and chemical changes with appropriate examples.
2)To Identify whether a given change is physical or chemical based on observable characteristics.
3)To Explain the key features of physical changes (e.g., no new substance formed, usually reversible).
4)To Explain the key features of chemical changes (e.g., formation of a new substance, often irreversible, energy changes).
Notes:
Physical Change
During a Physical change, only a change in the arrangement of molecules occurs. Most of the physical changes are reversible.
Eg: Boiling of water, Tearing of paper, Stretching of rubber band etc.
Chemical Change
During a Chemical change, new molecules are formed.Chemical change is irreversible.Chemical change is a permanent change.
Eg: Burning of paper, Rusting of iron, Burning of matchstick etc.
